About the Author

Doreen Slinkard, preferably Dor, was born in suburban Melbourne and although she was a city girl, her first word uttered as an infant, was horse. At age seven she began riding and also writing about horses, which inevitably led to becoming a jillaroo.

When Dor was Jillarooing in the Riverina area, she met a jackaroo by the name of Wade Slinkard. Their love for the bush and of horses was forged, and when she married Wade, they moved to a property situated on The Hawkesbury River in NSW. This is where they lived their dream of training race horses, which is still Dor’s ‘other job’ to this day.

Dor’s alternate passion was writing short stories and poetry. This began when she was a jillaroo, but took a professional path, when five years ago her children’s series, ‘Wicky Wacky Farm Adventures,’ was published. These stories are based on truth and the adventures her children had while living on the farm. All these stories have ‘Dor’s magic’ dusted liberally across them. Now she enjoys the fact that her grandchildren are loving the very same stories.

Not long after being published, Dor travelled to Beijing in 2011 for the Book Expo. This is where she met Wang Longli of CCTV Beijing. He loved the moral underpinning and the humor within the Wicky Wacky Farm series. Wang was, and still is, interested in making a television series out of the stories. But, first they had to be published in China. So Wang Longli set about finding a consenting publishing company and Blue Sky came to the fore. He then helped in presenting the books into a bi-lingual print form and also their re-illustrating. Now Dor’s one book, containing the ten stories, is set to hit the book shelves in China, in September 2016. The books have been accepted into the Chinese school curriculum and Wang Longli remains confident that the books will be popular. He is waiting for this prediction to come true, before he gets busy producing the television series ‘The Wicky Wacky Farm Adventures.’

Dor’s adult novel, For the Love of Patrick, is the first part of a three-book saga. This first book, is now available on e-book. Feedback on the first of this Australian romance novel, has been exceptional and discussions about movie potential are ongoing. The synopses of the three stories that make up the saga can be viewed separate from the author bio.

Her fourth novel, which stands apart from the continuing family saga, is being created as we speak. Its name; ‘Henry-Etta and Co.’

Dor is also working on her memoirs, ‘A Buggar of a Kid.’ An informative and humorous narrative, about being brought up in the fifty’s, surviving the seventies and never giving up her pursuit to live her passions. This book is sure to add many laughter lines to your face.

She is a prolific writer with one story chasing the next. Dor is both hilariously creative and unstoppable.
